Corfe Castle is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt villages in Dorset
and lies at the heart of the Isle of Purbeck, in an Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty. The stunning ruins of the castle overlook the village and
surrounding countryside, most of which is protected by the National Trust.
Westcott is a wonderful, 16th century, detached cottage, situated in West
Street, a cul-de-sac, which is one of Corfe's most picturesque and desirable
locations. Beautifully renovated, the cottage retains an immense charm with
the original beamed ceilings, deep sills, leaded windows, flagstone floors
and characteristic Purbeck stone tile roof. Inside, the traditional features
blend wonderfully with the contemporary design. The open plan living area
has flagstone floors, with rugs for warmth, an inglenook fireplace and bread
oven, large comfy sofas and a dining table with leather chairs. The quality
of furnishings is exceptional throughout with mosaic copper slate tiles in
the shower room and a roll-top bath and tumbled-marble tiling in the
bathroom. The beautiful, bespoke, Shaker kitchen has Purbeck stone flooring
and opens onto the patio and garden. Upstairs, the attractive bedrooms have
traditional low doorways and Bedroom 4 has sloping ceilings and is most
suited for a child. The fully enclosed garden has a slide and wooden play
tower and views to the castle.
Corfe Castle has a village shop, baker, Post Office and four pubs serving a
wide range of food and beers. The railway station is perfectly preserved
with a regular steam train to Swanage. A short walk from Westcott is Corfe
Common, a delightful, natural wildlife habitat. The Isle of Purbeck has a
golf course, mountain biking trails and a variety of water sports. The
Jurassic Coast is a spectacular stretch of coastline, designated a World
Heritage Site and part of the South West Coast Path. Nearby Studland Bay has
stunning sandy beaches backed by dunes and the National Trust Nature
Reserve. |
