A wealth of attractions, both natural and man-made, are easily accessible, including the National Trust properties at Lanhydrock and Trelissick and the fascinating Eden Project with its gigantic rain forest and desert biomes. Beautiful sandy beaches abound, such as Pentewan and Porthpean, the latter offers safe bathing and wonderful views across St Austell Bay. Steeped in history, romance and folklore, this area has provided the inspiration for many novels; nearby Menabilly was 'Manderlay', the setting for Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca.
