The Anglo Saxon village of Stratton is situated in Thomas
Hardy’s county of Wessex, where the famous author was born. Overlooking the
village green, this 19th century village hall was the hub of the local
community for over 100 years. Now a sympathetically renovated and elegantly
furnished holiday home, the Old Village Hall retains many original features,
including timber beams, arched doorways and large mullioned windows with
beautiful stained glass. All of the accommodation is on the ground floor,
whilst an attractive staircase leads to an unusual minstrel’s gallery
overlooking the cosy sitting room, where guests can relax with a book. The
bright and spacious kitchen/dining room boasts granite worktops and
terracotta floor tiles, as well as a double range-style cooker. The pretty
enclosed back garden is lawned, with a patio and garden furniture.
Just over three miles from Dorchester, the Old Village
Hall is an ideal base for exploring this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty,
with its abundance of coast and countryside walks as well as leisure
activities for the whole family.
Nearest Coastline: The beaches at Weymouth, Chesil
Beach, West Bay, Lulworth Cove, Seatown.
Tourist Attractions: The Jurassic Coast, Mapperton
House and Gardens, Hardy’s Cottage, Monkey World, Dinosaur Museum,
Abbotsbury Swannery.
