The
Linhay
The small parish of Plymtree is set in a
landscape of fertile red sandstone with rich dairy pastures and orchards
that produce some of the best cider in Devon. The village has an active
community with a local shop, post office, hard tennis court, children's
playground and a pub, which serves good food and has a beer garden, skittle
alley and boules piste. The Linhay is a detached, converted barn in the
grounds of the owner's house. Downstairs the open plan living area is
spacious and light; the large upstairs bedroom is a lovely room with vaulted
ceilings, beams and a king-size bed. The Linhay faces south and the small
patio at the front of the cottage is a real suntrap. The area is great for
walking and cycling with footpaths and circular routes from the village (the
cottage has secure bike storage). Within a short drive are the beautiful
south coast beaches of Beer, Branscombe and Sidmouth and the rugged expanses
of Dartmoor and Exmoor. Recommended days out include a visit to Bicton Park
Botanical Gardens, with museum, restaurant and indoor play complex and Escot
Park, a natural paradise with fantasy gardens, a maze, woodlands and
wildlife. National Trust properties include Knightshayes Court, Killerton
and A La Ronde. Exeter offers a wide choice of shops, theatres and
restaurants. Two local pubs worthy of mention include the Drewe Arms at
Broadhembury, awarded the 'Best Seafood Pub in Great Britain' and the 16th
century, Five Bells Inn at Clyst Hydon. |
