Kingswear is a pretty riverside village in a stunning location overlooking the River Dart on the opposite bank to olde worlde Dartmouth. A village of mostly Victorian origins, there are some interesting shops, a bistro, three pubs and The Royal Dart Yacht Club. The Hideaway is ideal for either a summer holiday or a short break in winter when the mild South Hams climate comes into its own. A beautifully maintained and presented property, it has spectacular views of the river from the bedroom and the charming terrace garden. There is always plenty of activity on this part of the river; the pleasure boats steam up and down, it is popular for yachting, the little boats moored in the marina make a colourful site by day and their safety lights twinkle and dance on the water at night. The Resnova Floating Inn offers the ultimate waterside venue for a meal; this converted nineteenth century Dutch Barge is permanently moored in the middle of Dartmouth Harbour, it offers a truly romantic evening and excellent food, and is reach by the frequent water taxis.

As well as the glorious beaches of the South Hams there are many things to enjoy in the surrounding area even if you do not wish to use the car. Just a short stroll from the Hideaway will take you to the ferry crossing the river to Dartmouth, or from the original Victorian station you can catch the stream train with its beautifully restored coaches to Paignton and Torbay. For an unusual day out why not try the “Round Robin Trip” Ferry to Dartmouth, River Boat to Totnes, lunch and time to browse around the shops, open topped bus to Paignton, and home on the train. For garden lovers a longish walk takes you to the glorious gardens at Coleton Fishacre or you can join the famous South Devon Coast Path at Kingswear and walk for miles.
