The Cobbles

West Devon.

A large, lively village with shops, pubs and its own railway station,
Bere Alston is set in an unspoilt peninsular of deep wooded valleys and
farmland between the rivers Tamar and Tavy. Part of a working farm, on
the edge of Bere Alston, The Cobbles is attached to the main farmhouse
and fronts the cobbled farmyard. It is a very spacious property in a
quiet rural setting. The large kitchen/diner opens onto a walled,
cobbled patio area with a lawned area alongside and your own private
parking. In the attractively furnished first floor lounge a woodburner
will keep you snug and warm. There is plenty to entertain you in the
area: Buckland Abbey, home of Sir Francis Drake, Morwellham Quay, a
ghost river port, Tavistock, with its ancient history and market,
Dartmoor, with its valleys and tors, and the naval city of Plymouth. A
novel way to visit Plymouth is by train. Setting off from the
traditional Victorian style station, the train meanders its way along by
the river and through pretty countryside before arriving to an explosion
of activity in Plymouth. For quieter days at the tip of the Bere
peninsular you will find Bere Ferrers, a smaller riverside village, and
the hamlet of Weir Quay. Once thriving mediaeval ports used to export
locally mined silver and tin, both are now popular with yachtsmen and
there are always yachts and boats moored here for you to watch while you
enjoy a drink in the waterside pub. There are plenty of local walks
along public footpaths and Bere Alston Woods, managed by the Woodland
Trust, is ideal for wildlife spotting.
Note: Non-Smokers Only.
