The Ashes (to the front of the photograph) is an attractive house in the heart of the quiet Dorset village of Bere Regis. A leisurely stroll from the front door will take you to the traditional village shop; alternatively, wander into one of the friendly local hostelries for a drink or a delicious meal. Inside, the house is tastefully furnished in traditional style using shades of strawberry pink and cream; lamps, cushions, ornaments and pictures create an air of quality, warmth and welcome. A small, level patio and garden, sheltered and sunny, can be reached from French doors in the lounge. Bere Regis is an ideal base from which to explore the many and varied delights of South Dorset and the Isle of Purbeck. To the south you will find the horseshoe shaped beach of Lulworth Cove, the dramatic castle at Corfe, traditional seaside entertainment at Swanage and The National Trust beach and nature reserve at Studland Bay. To the west is Thomas Hardy's Cottage and Athelhampton House as well as Weymouth and the Isle of Portland, whose waters will be host to the 2012 Olympic sailing events. Bournemouth, the New Forest and a trip to Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour will all make a memorable day out. Walkers will be spoilt for choice between picturesque rolling countryside and the dramatic coastal path.
