Located on the harbourside, Sammy Hakes Cottage is a unique property with the most spectacular sea views from all the rooms. Sammy Hakes was a local character who lived in part of the building for many years at the turn of the 20th century. Later it became the marine office and a lookout was added to allow the officers a view over the Bristol Channel. In the lookout a table and stools are provided so you can sit, have an evening drink and enjoy spectacular sunsets. Watchet is a delightful Somerset harbour town with a maritime history going back over two millennia. Nestled between Exmoor National Park and the Quantock Hills, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is a location with something to offer everyone. Nearby, Blue Anchor Bay has beautiful beaches and is just a short steam train ride on the West Somerset Railway from Watchet. Trains run daily in summer and during school holidays. The harbour is now a converted marina offering all the latest facilities and the town has award winning dining and shopping in its small high street. The nearby Helwell Bay is a popular spot for fossil hunting.
