Rose Cottage is a detached, white-washed, stone built, 17th century cottage close to the picturesque River Yealm. Beside the cottage, safely fenced and gated from the garden, is an uneven path, which runs around a lagoon, created by a breakwater across part of the river. Along the path there are picnic tables and seats; there is also shallow bank, from which children can dip their toes in the water, and areas where you can sit and fish for mullet, crabs and eels (bring your own fishing tackle). The river scene changes with the ebb and flow of the tide; at low tide those who like messing about in boats make way for a variety of water birds including ducks, swans, herons, kingfishers and egrets. Inside, Rose Cottage is beautifully furnished in traditional English country cottage style. There are oak floors, rugs, a wood burner and lovely views from many of the rooms. To the rear and side of the property are paved areas where children can play or you can enjoy a drink or meal whilst watching life on the river. For bucket and spade enthusiasts there are sandy beaches at Wembury and Bovisands and the magnificent scenery will delight walkers on the coastal path.
