Rose Cottage is a traditional, comfortable thatched cottage in Chulmleigh, a Saxon town designated as a Conservation Area and an Area of Rural Tranquillity. Situated within walking distance of the local amenities, this charming Grade II listed building is in a central location for exploring North Devon. With a woodburner, original beams, stone floors and cob walls, Rose Cottage is an ideal cosy retreat. The large, deep cushioned sofas are perfect for relaxing in front of a roaring fire, or for just lazing around after a busy day walking, sightseeing or shopping. A narrow, winding staircase leads to the bedrooms, both of which are bright and cheerful, with charming, quirky features including low windows, uneven floors and sloping ceilings. While the kitchen/diner retains a rustic charm, it is both attractive and practical with a generous selection of ingredients and cookware for guests’ use. The owners have also thoughtfully provided a picnic basket and disposable barbecue when enjoying a day out!

The ancient semi-natural woodlands surrounding Chulmleigh are very intriguing, with a variety of walks and a diverse range of plant and animal life. Chulmleigh is also recognised as having the most otters in any Natural Area in England, hence the aptly-named Tarka Trail, one of Devon’s best long distance walking and cycling trails. Exmoor National Park offers magnificent scenery and interesting wildlife, including the delightful ponies and a zoo. A visit to Exmoor Falconry and Animal Farm is also a unique experience. The museum in Lynton features the heritage of Exmoor dating back to the Stone Age, or Miss Piggyland, Rabbit World and the Indoor Jungle at North Devon Farm Park are also fun days out. The beaches at Westward Ho! and Minehead make a pleasant change from the countryside and Taunton or Exeter, with its magnificent Cathedral, both have an excellent selection of shops, pubs, restaurants, entertainment and lively night life.
