From the property there is a lovely walk, The Byes, which takes you through National Trust owned land, past a children’s playground, a sports field and along the side of the River Sid into the pleasant Regency town of Sidmouth in about 40 minutes. Nearby Exmouth has a long stretch of golden sands and offers traditional seaside entertainment; from here there is a passenger ferry to Starcross and to the beach and nature reserve at Dawlish Warren. There are numerous boat trips along the Exe Estuary, which is rich in birdlife. To the west, Budleigh Salterton is a quiet town with a good selection of small, individual shops and a pebble beach; to the east, the World Heritage coastline around Lyme Regis is a magnet for fossil hunters. Porch Cottage is also perfectly situated for families wishing to visit the seaside resorts of Beer and Branscombe. Local attractions including Crealy Adventure Park and Pecorama, with its delightful miniature railway, will offer a fun day out for all the family.
