Polroan
At the entrance to the seaside village of Gorran Haven there is a quiet and pleasant cul de sac of detached bungalows. Polroan is amongst them; it sits on a gentle slope and faces south across the village to tantalizing glimpses of the sea through the trees. There is a patio and lawn at the front of the bungalow where you can soak up the sun and a further lawned garden at the rear, accessed by a few steps (care needs to be taken here with young children because of an unfenced drop in level). Inside the accommodation is all on one level and an open fire, a DVD player and Sky Sports, Discovery and children’s channels are available in the comfortable lounge. This is an enchanting area of Cornwall where headlands and cliffs are punctuated by sweeping bays of fine, pale sand and delightful coves. At Gorran Haven the narrow streets lead down to a sandy beach where the southern end is sheltered by a small breakwater. The coastal path meanders around miles of breathtaking scenery and there are enough sandy beaches to visit a different one every day of the week; the coast path and two sandy beaches are within half a mile of Polroan. Mevagissey is an ancient fishing port where picturesque old buildings flank the steep narrow streets and shops sell antiques, souvenirs and the work of local artists. Fishing boats share the harbours with pleasure craft and boat trips and shark fishing can be arranged. All the family will enjoy mackerel fishing – its almost impossible not to catch one – and they are delicious barbequed. The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the world famous Eden Project are within a short drive. |
