Lerryn is an unspoilt and very pretty riverside village. Charming little cottages overlook the tidal creek of the river Fowey and the pace of life is slow and easy. Penpol is about one mile beyond the village in the hamlet of St Veep. Nestled in countryside made famous by Daphne Du Maurier, this picture postcard, detached cottage, with roses round the door, stands in three acres of its own grounds. A small stream tinkles along one side of the garden and the river winds its way along the edge of the orchard on the other side. The ground to the rear and side of the cottage is terraced with pretty seating areas, lawns and wilder parts that are ideal for children to play in. The younger children will enjoy the unique sand pit - once a small fishing boat! Inside the cottage you will find low-beamed ceilings, real fires, slate floors and beautiful furnishings.

As you enter through the stable door you will see a magnificent, long oak dining table perfect for family meals or board games. An Aga adds extra warmth to the room and larger families will find it very useful having both a conventional and traditional oven. To your right is the inviting, comfortable lounge with a woodburner, deep easy chairs and discreet lighting, creating the perfect atmosphere for quiet, cosy evenings. The large kitchen/breakfast room, with separate larder, has some utensils hanging from the old beams in traditional style whilst life's modern essentials are neatly hidden away in the handcrafted wooden units. In the utility room there is a washing machine and tumble dryer and an extra fridge especially for drinks, so if you are enjoying a laze in the garden, refreshment is always at hand. All the rooms are surprisingly spacious for such an old cottage and each of the four bedrooms has its own special character. The double bedroom has French windows, which open onto a small balcony. From here there are views of the creek and the river beyond. The twin bedded room is known as the garden room, double glass doors lead onto a secluded stone patio, which overlooks the garden; a table and chairs are provided and it is the perfect spot for breakfast.

Bedroom 4, the children's room, is very prettily and tastefully furnished for children of all ages, the occupants can enjoy the luxury of their own en-suite shower room. Many famous people frequented Penpol during the 1970's, including The Beatles, who used to relish its peaceful seclusion. Now you can enjoy this unique property with all its delights. Should you feel that you need a change from these lovely surroundings, there are excellent riding stables just down the road and the old fishing villages of Polperro and Mevagissey are only a short drive away. The sandy beaches of Lantic and Lantivy can be reached via a National Trust walk or by boat. River cruises and fishing trips are also available from nearby Fowey. The Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the South West Coast Path can be reached within half an hour's drive. The Cornish south coast has dozens of little coves as well as some glorious beaches and, for shopping, Truro has an excellent selection of shops.
