The pretty village of Marnhull is tucked away
between Sherborne and Shaftesbury in the Blackmore Vale, an Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty, where the rural landscape is a patchwork
of fields and hedgerows. Better known as “Marlott” to Thomas Hardy
aficionados, this village was the fictional home of Tess of the
D’Urbervilles and the local pub, now the Crown Inn, was the “Pure
Drop Inn” much frequented by Tess’s father in the story. Old Lamb
Cottage is a cosy detached property situated in the grounds of the
owners’ home in the hamlet of Walton Elms, less than a mile from the
local amenities at Marnhull. Full of character, a large impressive
fireplace dominates the comfortable, traditionally furnished
lounge/diner. By contrast, the bright and airy kitchen provides
those 21st century essentials and in warmer weather, guests can
enjoy a barbecue on the private patio to the side of the cottage.
Nearest Coastline: Poole, Bournemouth,
Weymouth and the Jurassic Coast.
Tourist Attractions: Stourhead House and
Gardens, Sherborne Castle, Longleat Safari and Adventure Park, The
Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester and the famous giant at Cerne Abbas. |
