HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Cornwall’s rich mining history is still
strikingly evident today, with many of the old engine houses still
remaining, adding to Cornwall’s unique landscape. Wheal is the old Cornish
word meaning ‘mine’ and the small hamlet of Wheal Rose is an excellent base
for touring most of Cornwall and enjoying the vast range of activities on
offer. The north coast’s superb beaches are just a 10-minute drive away with
the sandy expanse of Porthtowan a favourite with families and surfers. For
days out the scenic Port of Falmouth with the fascinating National Maritime
Museum and The Eden Project are within easy reach. Even closer are the Lappa
Valley Steam Railway at East Wheal, with a boating lake and play area and
the Radnor Golf & Leisure complex, where you can also learn to ski or
practise your skills in a safe environment. Truro, with its lovely cathedral
and choice of shops, is about 7 miles away. A perfect way to explore the
area is the nearby Portreath Tramroad, over 52km of sign-posted walk and
cycle ways linking Portreath on the north coast to Devoran in the south, a
haven for cyclists and walkers. |

Captain’s Rest and Miner’s Lodge are
attached barn conversions affording a very high standard of
accommodation and facilities, featuring underfloor heating, bespoke
kitchens and quality furniture and fittings throughout. They share a
Games Barn / utility room with a pool table, dartboard and secure
storage space for bikes, wetsuits and surf boards. You are welcome to
enjoy the several acres of adjoining fields where children can have a
game of football or exercise the dogs. To the front of the cottages is a
large sandstone patio with garden furniture and each cottage has its own
private garden. There are plenty of parking spaces situated outside the
gated entrance to the cottages.
Miner’s Lodge is the ideal choice for a couple or a young family. The
open plan living area is modern and well designed, featuring similar
facilities, and the same lovely standard as next door. Two steps lead
from the living area up to the attractive bedrooms and bathroom. There
is a sunny patio to the front of the cottage with table and chairs and a
private, enclosed garden to the side.
