A stable door opens into Lower Granary’s light, contemporary, living
area, which is comfortably furnished and has a flat screen television,
radio and CD player. There is a small, south facing patio area with
table and chairs, accessed from the living room and a communal picnic
area, shared with the cottages. From
Lower Granary there are numerous walks to enjoy, including one to
Winsford Hill where Exmoor ponies roam and views are far-reaching to
Dunkery and Dartmoor. The Exmoor Pony Centre is a mile away and offers
rides for the novice and experienced horse rider and an insight into the
history of this rare breed. The Tarr Steps, a prehistoric clapper
bridge, is only a five-minute drive and from here you can enjoy a
pleasant walk along the banks of the Barle and take refreshment at the
local hostelry. The scenic towns, villages and
beaches of the Somerset and North Devon coasts are within easy reach, including Lynton, Lynmouth and Minehead. Part of Exmoor will forever be known as “Lorna
Doone Country” and at the heart of it is the magical “Doone Valley,”
with lovely walks. At nearby Dulverton there are interesting shops,
tearooms, pubs and restaurants and an excellent selection of local
produce.
