Cottage The village of Colaton Raleigh lies in the beautiful Otter Valley, between Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton and within five miles of the East Devon coast and World Heritage Site. The stunning scenery is best viewed on foot and there are excellent walks that take in the best of both worlds; follow the River Otter as it meanders through countryside, teeming with birdlife, then joins the South West Coast Path with its amazing views, prehistoric cliffs and the chance to hunt for fossils. Leat Cottage was the original village laundry, fed by water from a nearby leat. Now a listed building, the cottage has been renovated to an exceptionally high standard, mirrored in the neighbouring properties Blueball Barn and Blueball Dairy. The spacious lounge has a high vaulted ceiling and is dominated by the wonderful, original fireplace, which now has a woodburner. French doors open onto a private patio with seating and an attractive view across the field. Oak floors feature in the lounge and pretty bedroom with under floor heating adding warmth to the tiled floors in the bathroom and kitchen. Situated just off the main village road Leat Cottage is ideally located for visiting the coast at Sidmouth or Exmouth, or inland to Exeter, Honiton and Axminster. The local pub, The Otter Inn, is a two-minute walk and offers a wide variety of food and real ales and has a beer garden. The magnificent gardens of Bicton Park are only half a mile away with Escot Garden Maze and Fantasy Woodland a little further. From the village a delightful path follows the River Otter to Otterton where you can visit the water mill with gallery, bakery and restaurant. |
