Nestled in a Mendip valley, with a skyline of steep wooded hills, is the
historic village of Croscombe. The village is in a designated conservation
area where ancient buildings include Tudor manor houses, a lovely church and
the Bull Terrier pub, licensed since 1612! Croscombe has a thriving
community with a school, village hall, post office, shop, play park and bus
service. Laurel House is a 15th century, Grade II listed building, the end
cottage of a row of four, situated on the village road, near the village
centre. Wonderful, unusual features include the Victorian tiled hallway
leading to the lounge, which has a restored inglenook fireplace with
woodburner, an historic sacred basin for blessed water and an ancient
archway leading to the original spiral staircase. The bedrooms have rural
views over Paradise Hill and care is needed entering the twin room due the
combined low doorway and step down.
From the spacious kitchen there are two steps up to the utility area,
bathroom and access to the pretty garden. The garden is shared with the
owner, who lives next door and there is a small, private seating area. You
are welcome to make use of the owner's field, just
a few minutes' walk away and ideal for anyone
bringing their dog. |
