Harbourside House is an impressive private residence at Empacombe
Bay, a small waterside hamlet within the grounds of Mount Edgcumbe
Estate, which encompasses the South West Coast Path. In a peaceful
location on the outskirts of the park, Harbourside House is perfect
for a relaxing holiday and exploring this fascinating area of
Cornwall. Fallow Deer and other wildlife can occasionally be seen in
the neighbouring woodland and a variety of birds frequent the small
shingle beach, where children can have fun crabbing or paddling in
their wellies at low tide. Built in the 18th century and retaining
many original features, Harbourside House is comfortable, welcoming
and tastefully decorated. Arranged over three floors, colourful
paintings and ornaments feature prominently throughout the house.
There are fabulous estuary views from several rooms and in the
evenings enjoy the magnificent sunsets. Lord Nelson is rumoured to
have visited Harbourside House for secret liaisons with Lady
Hamilton and to have watched his fleet of ships with his telescope
through a small bedroom window! |

Doors from the
conservatory lead to a secluded garden with large gazebo, built-in
barbecue and fabulous covered terrace, perfect for outdoor dining or
relaxing whatever the weather. Steps lead to a huge, gently sloping
lawn and orchard, with swing seats, hammocks and incredible views.
A visit to Mount Edgcumbe House is essential and Plymouth has
numerous attractions for all ages, including the National Marine
Aquarium, the Barbican, Plymouth Hoe and Plymouth Pavilions.
Buckland Abbey and Pennywell Farm are fascinating and the fabulous
beaches at Whitsand Bay, Rame and Cawsand are easily accessible.
