The countryside around Kingswear is superb and overlooking the River Dart, opposite Dartmouth, it is a stunning location. A small town of mostly Victorian origins, there are some interesting shops including Bears and Friends, a well known haven for teddy bear lovers from all over the world. As well as the glorious beaches of the South Hams there is much to do in the surrounding area even if you do not wish to use the car. Just a short stroll from Harbourside will take you to the ferry crossing the river to Dartmouth, or from the original Victorian station you can catch the steam train with its beautifully restored coaches to Paignton and Torbay. For an unusual day out why not do the 'Round Robin Trip'; ferry to Dartmouth, river boat to Totnes, lunch and a browse around the shops, open topped bus to Paignton and home on the train. For garden lovers a longish walk takes you to the glorious gardens at Coleton Fishacre, or perhaps a trip to Greenway, Agatha Christie's old home now owned by The National Trust.
