Downover
Downover is located
along a narrow country lane within the beautiful Brendon Hills - a
tranquil region of valleys, forests and farmland within the Exmoor
National Park. Once a thriving
iron mining area, the now disused West Somerset Mineral Railway line
forms a superb foot and cycle path, which can be accessed from the
cottage. During the 19th century the line was used to transport
ironstone from the mines in the Brendon Hills to the port of
Watchet, from where the ore was taken across the Bristol Channel to
Wales.
This cosy
semi-detached cottage, adjacent to the owner’s home, is comfortably
furnished, with an open plan living area featuring a woodburning
stove for the cooler weather. Guests can enjoy far-reaching views
over a stunning wooded valley from their own private terrace and
they are free to explore the owner’s fourteen glorious acres of
unique natural environment. Downover is an ideal
holiday retreat for those who enjoy wildlife, walking and stargazing –
Exmoor National Park is the first place in Europe to have been
designated an International Dark Sky Reserve. Nearest Coastline:
The beaches and harbour at Watchet, Blue Anchor Bay, Dunster and
Minehead.
Tourist Attractions:
Walking the Coleridge Way, Dunster Castle, Cleeve Abbey, the West
Somerset Steam Railway, numerous activities on Exmoor including guided
walks and tours, cycling and water sports.
