The Great Western Railway, built by
Brunel, passes through Starcross, where one of the old
pump houses still remains. A scenic rail journey from
Starcross to Newton Abbot runs along the sea wall from
Dawlish Warren to Teignmouth, through five tunnels cut
into the red cliffs. Hop on the passenger ferry at
Starcross, over to Exmouth, and enjoy the two-mile
expanse of golden sands, shops and cafés. Dawlish Warren
is only two miles away and has a sandy beach,
traditional seaside entertainment, golf courses and a
500-acre nature reserve. The beautiful moorland
landscape of Dartmoor National Park and the cathedral
city of Exeter make for two very different days out.
Guests wishing to bring small boats can conveniently
launch them from Cockwood or Starcross.
