Chideock is one of South Dorset's prettiest villages just inland from the south coast and three and a half miles west of Bridport. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and part of the UK’s World Heritage Site, much of the coastline is owned by the National Trust. This is an excellent area for walking and bird watching and the views from the top of Golden Cap are breathtaking. The small hamlet of Seatown lies about a mile from Carpenter’s Cottage and is a delightful, little known cove, backed by rolling hills, a haven for fossil collectors. South Dorset is an area with a tremendous variety of things to do; visit Bridport, a typical Dorset town, Lyme Regis with its historic Cobb, or take a tour of Dorchester, the town made famous by Thomas Hardy’s novels. Forde Abbey and gardens are nearby, as is the Abbotsbury Swannery. Carpenter’s Cottage, once part of a wheelwright’s workshop, has been renovated to create a welcoming, semi-detached holiday home. In the heart of the village, Carpenter’s Cottage is slightly set back from the main road between Bridport and Charmouth and is just yards from the local shop and pubs, The Clock House Inn and The George Inn. The cottage has a small, gravelled patio with table and chairs and there is also a lawn, which is approached by steepish steps.
