Chideock is one of South Dorset's
prettiest villages just inland from the south coast and 3 1/2
miles west of Bridport. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural
Beauty, and part of the UK’s World Heritage Site, much of the
coastline is owned by The National Trust. It is an excellent
walking and bird watching area and the views from the top of
Golden Cap are breathtaking, especially on a clear day. The
small hamlet of Seatown lies about a mile from Carpenter’s
Cottage and is a delightful little known cove, backed by rolling
hills. The Anchor Inn is almost on the beach at Seatown, a haven
for fossil collectors. South Dorset is an area with a tremendous
variety of things to do; visit Bridport, a typical Dorset town,
Lyme Regis with its historic Cob, or take a tour of Dorchester,
the town made famous by Thomas Hardy’s novels. Forde Abbey and
gardens are nearby, as is the Abbotsbury Swannery. Carpenter’s
Cottage, once part of a wheelwright’s workshop, has been
renovated to create a warm, welcoming semi-detached holiday
home. In the heart of the village, Carpenter’s Cottage is
slightly set back from the main road between Bridport and
Charmouth. The cottage is just yards from the local shop and two
pubs, The Clock House Inn and The George Inn. There is off road
parking and the cottage has a small, gravelled patio and a lawn,
which is approached by steepish steps, with table and chairs for
eating outside. |
