The tiny hamlet of Southerton is set in delightful rural surroundings in the heart of the Otter Valley. By-the-Way Cottage is a beautifully converted barn that has a large, enclosed lawn reached by a small path through the owner's walled kitchen garden. There is space for children to kick a ball around or for adults to relax and listen to the bird song and the hum of the bees amongst the wild flowers. Aylesbeare Common, an Area of Special Scientific Interest and an RSPB reserve, are on your doorstep. The East Devon Way, from which the cottage takes its name, is nearby and there are well-marked cycle trails in the surrounding countryside. The nearby picturesque towns and villages of Topsham, Beer and Sidmouth as well as plenty of attractions mean that there is something for everyone in East Devon.

Nearest Coastline: The beaches at Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth, Lyme Regis and the Charmouth Heritage Centre with over 30 miles of Jurassic coastline to explore.

Tourist Attractions: The National Trust properties of Knightshayes Court, Killerton House and A La Ronde House, The Donkey Sanctuary, Crealy Great Adventure Park, Darts Farm shopping village, The Seaton Tramway, Escot Park, Bicton Botanical Gardens, Cadhay Manor, Beer Quarry Caves and Woodbury Park Golf Club.
