At the end of a quiet lane, just a mile outside the historic town of Shaftesbury, is Bramble Barn, a detached, converted three bay cart shed with lovely views over the ancient woodland of Duncliffe Hill and Blackmore Vale. This attractive cottage is built from Shaftesbury green stone and Gillingham brick with a colourful tiled roof, a patio in the shape of half a cartwheel and stone-faced walls in the lounge. The original openings for the carts have been replaced with floor-to-ceiling windows and a sliding glass door onto the patio. Fields border the large garden and there is plenty of parking on the pebble drive. The lounge/diner has oak floors, black leather sofas, a refectory dining table with pews and an impressive fireplace with woodburner, not forgetting the wonderful views over to Duncliffe; both bedrooms also have rural views.

Shaftesbury is steeped in history and tradition and is one of England's oldest and highest towns. The most famous view is the cobbled street of Gold Hill, known to millions as the 'Hovis' hill. The town has a fascinating 9th century Abbey, with a museum and gardens and a selection of traditional and speciality shops, art galleries, tearooms, restaurants and inns. Within an hours drive you could be fossil hunting on the Dorset World Heritage Coast, toe dipping in the sea at Bournemouth or experiencing the myth and magic of Glastonbury and Stonehenge.
