The East Devon coast is part of the "Jurassic Coast", which was recently declared a World Heritage Site. Magnificent, unspoilt beaches, many of them hunting grounds for fossils, are backed by lush countryside dotted with pretty villages of thatched cottages and roadside streams, river valleys and estuaries rich in wildlife. On the edge of Colaton Raleigh, an easy ten minute drive from Sidmouth, is a lovely courtyard of barn conversions, situated in landscaped grounds with access to picturesque walks by the River Otter. Anchoring has a spacious, comfortably furnished, open-plan living room on the ground floor and two pretty bedrooms upstairs. There is a private garden, complete with picnic table and barbecue as well as shared use of the extensive communal grounds. The village pub, a short walk away, has a lovely garden with children's play equipment and serves excellent food. Local attractions include Woodbury Common, Woodbury Golf and Country Park, Crealy Adventure Park and Bicton Gardens. There is a donkey sanctuary at Sidmouth, fishing trips available from Budleigh Salterton and, of course, this is the home of the cream tea!
